Hallstatt, one of the most beautiful villages in the world, is at the same time one of the oldest in Europe. The extraction of salt from its mountains, was already done since the prehistoric times of the Iron Age. Nowadays, the beauty of its alpine houses surrounded by mountains, its charming churches, and its idyllic location next to the Hallstätter lake, make this small village a very visited place.
For reasons of time, I only had one day to get this photograph I had always dreamed of. Atmospheric conditions were ideal throughout the day, but a couple of hours before sunset, the sky was suddenly covered and the strong storm that was triggered made it impossible to photograph. Fortunately, after half an hour the storm came to an end. When I reached this place and prepared to take the shot, another atmospheric factor threatened to destroy my possibilities. Great concentrations of fog were moving by the lake, covering completely certain zones. Just as the lights of the town began to turn on, the fog settled for a moment between Hallstatt and my camera. The disaster of not getting the picture was almost a reality. However, almost as if by magic, the fog decided to change its way again, and it gradually moved away between the mountains. In the end all that darkness, not only did not cover the beautiful light of Hallstatt, but impregnated the image of a unique atmosphere. With the satisfaction of having captured a unique moment, the one-hour night walk to return to our hotel in Obertraun, became much more bearable.
