I have always loved Bald Eagles, we have Two nesting pair in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I found out that Davenport , Iowa and Rock Island, Illinois have close to 2000 nesting pair on the Mississippi. I was so stunned by what I saw a week ago, that I went back this weekend (January 20, 2018).

This photo was taken on the Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa. Close to 2000 Bald Eagles winter in the area, fishing by the dams, where the water is not frozen over.Time
This photo was taken on a frigid morning in January 2018. I was out at the Moline, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa shores of the Mississippi River from sunrise to early afternoon. This photo was taken around 9am.Lighting
The Mississippi rivers runs North to South at this point, so choosing the bank with the Sun behind you is quite important to the composition and lighting.Equipment
My Nikon D3200 was used with a 200-500 mm Nikkor lense.Inspiration
I have been following our three nesting pair of Bald Eagles in Sheboygan, Wisconsin for the past four years, since I moved here. A fellow photographer asked me if I had ever been over to Moline/Davenport area. On the Mississippi River, nearly 2000 nesting pairs are located in the area between December and March. When I first arrived, I was so mesmerized, took no photos for the first 45 minutes. At the Rock Island Arsenal, I counted 182 Bald Eagles in 5 trees. I am amazed at the beauty and majesty of our national symbol.Editing
Just a little cropping, to bring the Bald Eagle closer to filling the frame. In my camera bag
I love to take photos of wild animals, apex predators and landscapes. I always have my AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm 1:5.6E and AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm 1:4.5-56G in my pack. My camera body is a Nikon D3200.Feedback
Bald Eagles mate for life and are creatures of habit. They return yearly to the same nest and if you study their patterns, you can be in the right place at the right time to photograph these majestic national symbols.
