Behind The Lens

Location
Downtown Dubai is an incredible modern mixed-purpose district of Dubai, which boast the tallest building in the world - the Burj Khalifa. The setting of this jaw dropping skyscraper surrounded by the dancing fountains makes a great location for a time-lapse.
Time
Due to this district of Dubai being so busy, with fountain shows happening every hour on the hour I ended up walking around the large fountain to find the best vantage point of the Burj Khalifa. I must have been shooting this location from Sunset right through into the Blue Hour, when this particular photo was taken. What makes this picture special is the fact that there were some fast moving clouds, which are quite rare to see in Dubai.
Lighting
I wanted to accentuate the iconic look of the Burj Khalifa and ensure that it was the center of attention in the photo. Capturing this photo during the blue hour brings out the lighting of the building and the lights from the city reflected into the clouds moving above, ensuring the scene had a nice pleasant, even lighting throughout.
Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 7D on a Manfrotto Tripod to ensure that the image was stable and as sharp as possible.
Inspiration
I had fallen in love with this area of Dubai, being surrounded by stunning architecture, and a great metropolitan vibe. I really wanted to capture the moment that I was enjoying at that point in time and accent the best features of this area, at an amazing time in the day.
Editing
Very minimal post-processing. Most of the editing was done in Adobe Lightroom, where I colour corrected the RAW photo, applied a little bit of contrast and overall sharpening on the image.
In my camera bag
My equipment has recently changed. I used to shoot with Canon, but have moved across to the Sony a7Rii mirorless system, where I have a Sigma 35mm Art Prime lens, a Sony 16-35mm Wide Angle, and a few other mixed use lenses. I also keep my Mavic Pro 2 in my bag as often as possible.
Feedback
In order to capture a photo like this, you need to be patient. I scouted the location for a few days before knowing more or less the direction I wanted to shoot. Patience is also something that is required to get a shot like this. For instance the clouds that were blowing through were not in the photos before or after this photo was taken.
