Location
This photo was captured as I was crossing a bridge into Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.Time
I was on an early morning run, exploring an area I was visiting. It was probably around 7am, and the sun was just starting to come up. There was still that early morning mist hanging in the air, but things were changing quickly.Lighting
Because I was new to the area, I senses were on alert. I had been running on the road, surrounded by large Redwood trees. I turning onto a bridge to enter the State Park, and that look of the sun beaming through over the creek made me stop dead in my tracks.Equipment
Because I was on a run, I was using my cell phone. This was with a Samsung S8 I do believe.Inspiration
We were visiting the area to celebrate the life of my Aunt. I spent a good part of it just trying to capture where my Aunt lived, and some faint childhood memories of visiting her. The moment stopped me, and I probably stood there for a good 15 minutes until the sun was all the way up and the light had changed completely. The photo, and moment, was a mix of mystery, peace and grandeur.Editing
Editing cell phone photos is hard. But most of this picture speaks for itself without the tweaks. All I really did was hit it with a little HDR resolution, and strengthen the saturation in the colors. I use the PhotoDirector app for photo editing on my phone. In my camera bag
When I am with my camera bag, I have a Nikon D5300 with several lenses, filters, and a tripod. I always keep sunglasses, chapstick, and gloves and a hat in there, because I never know when or how long I will be out in the elements.Feedback
The key to any sunrise, or sunset photo is patience. The perfect lighting typically lasts for just a couple of minutes. Sometimes you can catch it right as it happens, and sometimes, you have to set up and wait. Either way, I believe that any moment that is captured that speaks to you personally, will resonate with others.
