This photo was taken at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. I was getting ready to shoot action photography that day, but had to stop and take in the scenery first!Time
I caught this shot at about 8 AM, as we were arriving at the ski area. The sun was just starting to come up for the day, and all of the clouds from that evening were headed in the opposite direction of our event.Lighting
The layering in this image still amazes me. The wispy yellow clouds high above, reflecting the morning sun. The thicker, darker cumulus clouds, showing what was left of that prior evenings snow storm. And, the layer of fog that is coating the lake. Everything was just glowing that morningEquipment
I took this with my Nikon D5300 with the Tamron AF 30-700 lens. Basically, I just bent over the railing to stabilize myself, and snapped awayInspiration
As I said before, it all had to do with the glow of the colors and clouds. I'm a morning person, so I tend to see a lot of beauty at that time of day, and also appreciate being lucky enough to be up for those moments. To me, nothing beats coming out of a storm to see the beauty that it has created.Editing
I did a little HDR work to bring out the structure of the trees. In my camera bag
All of my normal camera gear. Lens, body, filters, etc. The extras that I never go without though, are my cheat cards for settings, so that I don't have to spend a lot of time working on my shots. Also, a spare pair of thin gloves, and sunglasses, for in between shooting timesFeedback
For me, my best advice is to be constantly aware of your surroundings. Some of the most incredible photography moments have come when I am not really expecting them to, or when I'm preparing for something else. But I try and keep a keen out at all times. The lighting may not always seem to be what you want it to be. But a certain angle, or waiting even a few minutes can change that.
