Behind The Lens

Location

this photo was taken at two jack lake in Banff national park, at sunset, it was well below zero degrees

Time

It was getting close to sunset, and a very cold, December evening.

Lighting

It was close to sunset, which is a great time to get solar flares. The way the light was hitting the snow, was magic, it illuminated the snow, while casting shadows as well. Such a beautifully cold experience.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D750, with a wide angle Tamron lens 15-30mm, no filter was used. this shot was done by handhold only while standing in the snow up to my knees.

Inspiration

I am very inspired by mountains. This particular shot had everything I look for. Mountains, amazing clouds, soft light being cast onto the white snow. everything about this shot inspires me

Editing

I am very minimal when it comes to post processing. I use light room, and I adjust the lighting accordingly. so that the photo is not blown out.

In my camera bag

I generally carry to lenses for my Nikon D750, I have the Tamron wide angle lens 15-30mm, and I have a zoom lens, Nikon 28-300mm. I always carry a tripod, and I always have filters for my lenses

Feedback

In the rockies, the weather changes very quickly, the sun may duck behind a mountain, the clouds may roll in very fast. I usually take multiple shots to find the best. as for the solar flare, you first have to see the flare in the lens, and set your camera settings accordingly, to capture it just right.
