Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my hometown, Oregon City, Or. Oregon City has a lovely lavender field. My "model" is my thirteen year old daughter. This was my first time shooting photos of a person.

Time

This photo was taken just before sunset, at the golden hour. We experienced nice lighting reflecting off of Mount Hood.

Lighting

I had been shooting photos for about an hour prior to this shot. When the sun began to set, is when we had this beautiful glow reflecting off of the mountain, and a soft light shining onto my lovely subject.

Equipment

I used a Nikon d3300. I also used a Nikon 18-300mm lens. This lens is nice to capture many focal points. I also used a proline tripod, which is good to capture practically any angle.

Inspiration

I had never photoed a person before and wad very nervous. I figured my own child could be a good experiment, as I have as much time to practice as I wanted. I was very pleased and proud of the outcome.

Editing

I generally use lightroom. I would call myself a minimalist. I don't like to over process the photo. Although I shoot the photos in raw form, I try to keep the photo as true as possible.

In my camera bag

I have my Nikon camera body. I usually carry at least 2-3 lenses. I carry the 18-300mm, a tokina wide angle 11-16mm, and sometimes a prime lens. I carry a small Sony tripod for backpacking, as it is light weight, otherwise I carry the proline tripod. A rainfly is nice especially in Oregon.

Feedback

Lighting is everything! A nice backdrop, and being able to feel confident in how to tell your subject how to pose for the photo.
