Location
This photo was taken in my models home. She had a few spaces she wanted to work with but and when I mentioned the stair case she cringed. She disliked the colours and the chipped paint, but she humoured me and it paid off.Time
This was taken around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. It was a grey day in the middle of November so not much light from the small window to her left.Lighting
We had a very small amount of light coming from the small window to the left of the model but besides that I used a soft box really high pointing down on her right. I feel like I also had a reflector somewhat to the front right of her too. I had to put the soft box at a very high angle to make it over the railing enough to not make it look like she was behind bars.Equipment
I shot this with a Canon Rebel XTi. With a 50mm - 100mm lens. Basically a straight out of the box set up. I got the camera approx 10 years ago to go to college. I learned lots and found out I had cancer shortly after. I’m all better now and decided to dig my old camera out and see what she can do! Photography makes me happy.Inspiration
I was looking for different angles to use in this very small location. I shot looking up at her and the next logical direction was down. It was at the end of the location and almost an after thought but it was well worth the chance we took at that one last shot.Editing
I did basic esthetic fixes. Chips in the stair paint, skin imperfections, runs in stockings. I also got rid of a cow door stopper holding the door at the top of the photo open. Didn’t really fit my vibe. I then did some colour corrections. I desaturated the stairs a lot considering they were a terrible mustard yellow colour. Then just played with my contrast and saturation and finally I did some dodge and burning. The part with that was done all with a mouse before I got a Wacom to make my life much easier and my photos becoming much more seamless. In my camera bag
I usually have my camera and basic 50mm to 100mm lense. I also have a 100- 300 mm lens stashed in there just in case. In my equipment bag I have two strobes, a soft box, an umbrella, reflector, two light stands, a set of gels with barn doors and a grid. I also usually have either a black or white fabric backdrop rolled up in it too as well as some clamps! Clamps are one of my best friends!!Feedback
Take chances!! Go where you shouldn’t be and look from angels you wouldn’t usually look from. Climb up and get low, just have fun and laugh and try something new
