I was on vacation in California after graduating from high school with my grandmother. We decided to drive the coast. We stopped in Pacifica for a night. The next day, we were walking down the beach, and I saw the waves hitting this rock. I thought it would be the perfect little mermaid shot. It took about 25 pictures to actually get this shot.Time
I took this shot about noon. It was a high tide. About 20 minutes later, this rock was completely covered with water, and I was standing in cold water that was up to my knees.Lighting
It was about noon so the light was mid-sky.Equipment
I received a Canon Rebel for Christmas when I was 16. I think it was one of the first models, and I have always used the lens that comes with it.Inspiration
I have always wanted to get a "little mermaid" picture. When I saw this rock, I realized that I was finally going to be able to get this shot. I stood there for a good 5 minutes taking pictures of waves hitting this rock until I got the right picture. I honestly didn't even know if I got the pic until I was looking through them when I got home.Editing
I don't usually like using filters on my pictures, but on this one, I used a filter that made the water a little bluer. I honestly don't remember what the filter was calledIn my camera bag
The only equipment that I have ever used is my Canon Rebel or my iPhoneFeedback
With action or nature shots, be prepared to have a few bad pictures. It takes time, patience, and a lot of tries to get the right picture. This shot took me at least 25 times. Don't be discouraged if you don't get it the first few times, but also don't give up if its a shot you've always wanted to get
