Location
This photo was taken at my hometown of Coimbra, at the center of Portugal. I live here since I was a child.Time
Blue hour, at around 7:30 in the afternoon.Lighting
I have taken many photos from this spot, it’s the ‘postcard view’ of my town. But most of the times the photo is taken during the day. I wanted to give a different look to a “tried and tested” photo and so it was taken at the blue hour, the sun had already set and the buildings were illuminated by the street lights and by the light remaining in the sky.Equipment
This was shot on a Sony a6000 with a Sony E 10-18 mm f/4 OSS lens and a Manfrotto PIXI EVO 2-Section mini tripod.Inspiration
This is my hometown. For years it was very difficult to take photos of a place I know so well. But a few years ago I had to move to another town, Oporto (a very beautiful city), because of my work, and I lived there for 8 years. During that time, I started to love my hometown more and more, it looked more beautiful as time passed.Editing
I tweaked the white balance, making the overall light a bit colder and warmer on the buildings , and also did some clarity and exposure correction. In my camera bag
With my gear I like to go light, so I usually carry a Sony a7r II and a single FE 24–105 mm f4 G OSS lens, a B+W circular polarizer and two neutral density filters. As for tripods, it depends on the occasion.Feedback
In these time of coronavirus pandemic, search for a different view of your town. Try seeing the places you see everyday with the eyes of a tourist, and take photos, lots of them, with your cellphone, with a film camera, with a digital camera even, just experiment!
