Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the Philippines at Padre Burgos, Quezon with the Borawan Island in the background.

Time

Whenever I go to the beach, I always prayed for a beautiful sunset. One great shot is enough for me to save my day. That day, my prayer was answered and I went home with this amazing shot.

Lighting

Again, timing and the right moment are the keys if you don't have any lighting gears.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3000 with NIKKOR lens 18-105mm, no tripod.

Inspiration

I love taking photos of simple scenes like this one, two fishermen, and their boat. For ordinary people, this moment is nothing but for me, this is something beautiful, something interesting. It has a story.

Editing

I only used Windows Live Photo Gallery to edit all my photos. I don't know how to use Photoshop. For this photo, It was cropped a little bit, then minimal adjustments on contrast, hight lights, shadows and no color adjustments.

In my camera bag

Aside from my Nikon D3000 with NIKKOR 18-105mm, I have my NIKKOR 50mm. I just bought my new gear last May 2017 and I am now using FujiFilm XT10 with Fujinon 16-55mm, with my extra lens Fujinon 50-230mm. I have my waterproof camera, FujiFilm XP120.

Feedback

If you love sunsets or sunrises, you have to research where you can find them. Timing, patience and waiting for the right moment are very important in photography. In my case, aside from the sun and cloud formations, I love to include other elements, like the boats, the people. Being minimalist is ok but adding elements is also a great way to tell a story to your photos. Shooting sunsets are much fun but it stays only maximum of 10 mins then it's gone. You have to maximize those moments, taking photos as much as you can in different angles. I always frame it with the sand and trees.
