Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in a little abandoned mining town of Nevada City, Montana. It now has be come tourist stop, as well as a mining and train museum. This is one of my favorite spots to do portraits as well because of the natural character of the area.

Time

I usually head up to this area when doing photos around 8:00 am. I miss the crowds during busy seasons and then I can head to Virginia City for lunch!

Lighting

The lighting that day was overcast and sort of gave that "long winding road" feel I was hoping to capture.

Equipment

My Nikon D90, Flash and a wide angle lens.

Inspiration

I had brought my oldest son up to do his senior pictures and my youngest son's school pictures there and in one shot I had them walk away from me on the tracks and on the other towards me.... then I thought about hmm... wonder what this shot would look like with no on in it and here it is!

Editing

The only post processing I did was to load this shot into photoshop and bump up the vibrancy.

In my camera bag

I usually always have my D90, 200 - 700mm wide angle lens, 50mm lens, flash and tripod.

Feedback

You just gotta go out and get the shot you want, whether it is laying on a set of tracks, climbing a tree, hiking a trail or just in the back yard with your kiddos.
