Caterpillar of the Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio machaon), one of the rarest and most spectacular butterflies in the UK. The strange thing is that this photograph was taken in part of the UK where these butterflies are very seldom seen. It is fully protected in Great Britain under the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act.
