Behind The Lens

Location

In the summer of 2017 I went on a family holiday to Chamonix in the French Alps. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of my Dad's summit of Mont Blanc, we went up Agille du Midi to take in the amazing views. This photo is looking towards Switzerland with Italy to the right.

Time

We got up early from our chalet and headed into Chamonix. Dad bought the tickets and we boarded the cable car to the summit. I remember it being around 25 degrees in the valley and around 2 on the summit. When we arrived it was crisp and clear late morning with views for miles around.

Lighting

The high alpine sun was glistening across the mountains and the snow was so crisp. A few thunder storm clouds were beginning to form in the distance (which luckily unleashed their energy and raun when we were heading back to the train station in the valley).

Equipment

I took my trusty Fujifilm FinePix XP60 camera which is still a great little camera for my many adventures. I didn't have any other equipment as I wanted to 'embrace the moment' and enjoy every second admiring the view, and so didn't use a tripod etc.

Inspiration

I have always felt at home in the mountains and am just in awe of their impressive form and might. Taking the cable car up to the summit did feel a bit like cheating, but there was no way (on that holiday) that the whole family would be able to climb up. So I wanted to set myself the challenge of doing it properly, some day, inspired by those I saw climbing up.

Editing

No editing on this one, just kept it simple. I have since played about with editing now my skills are widening.

In my camera bag

My trips are wild and adventurous and often in some extreme weather conditions. I like to keep my equipment light and minimal, but tough and reliable. I know that my Fujifilm FinePix XP60 will deliver and puts up with some tough situations. It's quick and easy, so I can capture amazing views and action shots. I've even used it GoPro style whilst coasteering!

Feedback

Don't over think it. Live in the moment and make memories as well as photos. Go and seek adventure and amazing views will show themselves to you.
