Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Maui. My husband and my brother- and sister-in-law set up a stay in Maui in November 2015. We arrived on a secluded stretch beach and noticed the turtles swimming toward the beach, where they would sleep for the night. This is one of them who swam and was nudged onto the beach by the waves.

Time

This took place in the evening. There was still a lot of light, but the turtles were on a mission to climb to a shadowed area, beneath some dunes and rocks, where they would cluster together and get a good night's rest. The turtle I photographed was one of the last ones to arrive.

Lighting

As the earth turned and tilted, the sun was near the horizon. The only thing I did was to angle my shot to eliminate any shadows of me and make sure the sun would capture turtles' shell and the beautiful waves of the ocean.

Inspiration

Taking photos of nature is my passion. Seeing a sea turtle up close (not too close) made my whole Maui vacation.

Feedback

Use what you have to capture what you love. Obviously, be "invisible" to the animal you want to capture in a photo, and let things happen naturally.
