The Forgotten Lands

When the landscape overwhelms the senses with awe, something grows on the inside that cannot be put into words. Can you?
Location: Kerlingarfjoll, Icelandic Highlands
After being in Iceland for three times, the fourth trip had to include the highlands. With the help of the awesome RVRental's 4WD Toyota Hilux, I finally had the freedom I needed to meet the wonders of this sparsely visited part of Iceland. The Kerlingarfjoll mountains were one of the chosen destinations, following advice by my friends Arnararnar Guðjónsson and Alexander Otto, and it was definitely a great tip!
After travelling through endless barren dry landscapes, typical of most of the Icelandic Highlands, all of a sudden you encounter a group of luxurious orange-red volanic rhyolite mountains, with numerous hot springs painting the soil with green, yellow and red tones. This is both a hiking and photographic mecca, with so many possible angles to explore. It's quite interesting to think that a century ago this area was rarely visited, as people used to think it was too remote and filled with outlaws and possibly... trolls!
