Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my local dam called Conowingo Dam electric plant, if I remember correctly it was the peak of the eagle season at the dam when fishing events happen often, maybe in November! I take so many I can't remember exactly date!

Time

Probably mid morning or afternoon

Lighting

I love the fall/ winter trees in the background with the sunlight on them, gives the viewer a sense of the season

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 80d, sigma 150-600mm contemporary, no flash and I handhold for all my shots!!!

Inspiration

I love bald eagles and I am very fortunate to live only 15 minutes from my local dam where bald eagles are plentiful and I am able to go anytime I want, when the eagles are very active I love to capture the fishing action and when there is a squad of eagles after the same fish!!!

Editing

The only post processing that was done would be bring up the shadows, clarity, contrast, dehaze, I don't like an over processed photo!

In my camera bag

Of coarse my sigma 150-600mm, I use for 95% of my photography, I have my nifty 50 and my newest 24mm for sunrises and sunsets!

Feedback

For eagles you need fast shutter and very good panning skills, the action can happen in an instant and quick, lighting in the winter months is not the best so you have to be there before break of dawn, as soon as the sun rises they are going fishing!!! Continuous focus for tracking and high speed continuous shooting, I take hundreds of photos during eagle season!!!
