Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Memphis Zoo last summer. The zoo is one of my favorite places to take pictures, and the Memphis Zoo has beautiful enclosures for their animals that make it seem they are not in a zoo at all.

Time

It was taking in the early afternoon...got lucky to have a beautiful sunny day.

Lighting

Just natural lighting from the sun ????

Equipment

Used a Canon Rebel Ti6 with a 75-300 zoom lens. Have been using Canon Rebels for years...love them! Easy to use and can give you awesome pics!

Inspiration

Love taking photos of animals, especially animals you can't see everyday. The zoo gives me opportunities to take photos of animals that I wouldn't be able to see up close and personal in any other setting.

Editing

I did just a bit of cropping and took down the brightness a bit

In my camera bag

I have my basic Canon Rebel Ti6 with my 75-300 zoom, always have extra charged battery and additional SD cards (when taking pics of animals you need to take many shots of the same pic to get just the right angle...getting their eyes open, them facing you just right-they are always moving and you can't ask them to look at you and hold still). Taking so many pics you need to be ready with a new battery and additional SD cards.

Feedback

Just visit as many zoos as you can and don't rush through...take your time at the exhibits that have the animals you like. I spend at least an hour every time I go just taking pictures of the big cats because they are one of my faves! Just enjoy watching the animals and take plenty of pics so you have many to choose from to pick out your favorites. My walls are full of some of my favorite pics that I have taken made into canvas prints...and I feel so proud every time someone comes into my home and I can share these pictures with them. So much more fulfilling than just purchasing pictures from a store to hang on your walls!
