This photo was taken in Grand Teton National Park, on our way up to Yellowstone National Park.Time
It was taken around 2pm, the storm clouds were just starting to roll in, making for some neat lighting and shadows on the ground.Lighting
It looked like an afternoon storm was about to roll in so the mix of big puffy clouds casting shadows on the ground made for an awesome contrast to the bright afternoon sun.Equipment
The camera I used was a Canon Mark III with a Canon 50mm lens. No flash and no tripod.Inspiration
Grand Teton National Park is one of my favorite National Parks to visit, and there are endless photo opportunities. This shot is one of my favorites though because of the contrast in lighting with the bright sun and the dark clouds.Editing
Yes, I changed this image to black and white to further emphasize the contrast in lighting. I also thought that it gave the photo overall a more edgy feel, with the contrasting lighting and the rocky edges of the Tetons.In my camera bag
I usually carry my Canon Mark III, my Canon 50mm and my Canon 24 mm. I also keep plenty of extra batteries and memories cards just in case and I tripod in my car.Feedback
Be prepared for anything... Luckily we didn't get caught in the storm but the weather can change in an instant. It is always good to keep umbrellas and rain gear with you when taking photos out in nature. There is nothing worse than getting caught in a storm with nothing to protect your camera and lens.
