This photo was captured at The London Eye at the fall of 2017 during a trip I took with my 3 kids and their spouses.Time
This was our first day in London together. After breakfast we took the train downtown and was walking along the river towards Big Ben around noon.Lighting
It was a nice day for being London in October. No rain but some clouds on the sky. First I took a picture of the skyline .. The Eye in the front - Big Ben and Westminster in the back.. As approaching The Eye I wanted take a special picture.. something showing The Eye , make it recognisable without showing all of it. This was possible because of the rather grey sky helping me not getting any white outEquipment
For this picture I used a handheld Leica M9 with a 2,8/50 Lentz ElmaritInspiration
I have seen pictures like this before. I wanted to capture The Eye and make people recognise it without showing all of it, or even show where it's taken. A rather normal mistake by a lot of photographers is to involve too much in the frame. I wanted to make it simple, not showing too much but still enough to make the viewer say: Hummm .. I've seen this before.. It's something famous but what is it?Editing
I always shoot in RAW. I use Adobe CC and "Camera Raw" to adjust highlights, shadows, sharpening and other adjustments. In Adobe photoshop I normally clean the photo for spots etc, adjust contrast and light. In my B/W I use NIK collection and "Silver Efex"In my camera bag
When walking the streets I normally just have my camera with one lens.. I decide before going out what lens I want to bring. This gives a lot of limitations but is at the same time a challenge to myself. It is a huge difference shoot all your pictures with a 35mm compared to a 90mm If I use my small bag I bring my Leica M9 house, a 2,8/90mm Lentz Eringlmarit, a 2/50 Lentz Summicron (I swapped to this from the Elmar this year) and a 2/35 Canon ltm (Leica twist mount) In my big bag I also bring a Zenz Bronica medium format with 2 film backs, a 75mm lens and some rolls of filmFeedback
As I mentioned earlier. To make interesting pictures it's sometimes, not always, important to see the little tings. A hint instead of the big pictures.. Make people think, make their own mind up. I like doing it simple. Think lines and geometrical forms
