Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from my garden. I could see that the clouds were really moody and thought that, due to the overcast clouds, there would not be much of a sunset. To my surprise the sun burst through on the horizon for 2 minutes and I could take this picture.

Time

Photo taken as the sun was setting and burst through the cloud cover. Date: November 8th, 2017. Time 19:38.

Lighting

All natural lighting from the setting sun.

Equipment

This was taken with a Huawei P10 smartphone on auto setting. No flash or tripod used. The lens on the phone is Leica set at 20MP resolution. the camera was also set on the "Vivid Colours" mode to increase the depth of colour and the mood of the clouds. Snapseed was used afterwards to make the foreground a little darker.

Inspiration

Sunsets and clouds are just a "thing" for me and I try to capture the beauty of that fleeting moment when light, mood and time seems to be in perfect harmony. On this occasion I literally had 2 minutes from the first ray of light to everything being a monotonous grey!

Editing

I used Snapseed to darken the foreground. The camera is set on "vivid colours" as a rule.

In my camera bag

Although I have a Canon DSLR, my Huawei P10 smartphone seems to be the only equipment I have in my bag these days at it is something I can just stuff in my pocket and take with me wherever I go.

Feedback

Be patient. Look at the clouds, and nature in general, and try to anticipate what could happen next.
