A Hurricane called Brian was battering Ireland and it had sucked up a lot of Saharan dust and ash from forest fires in Spain and Portugal giving the sky an eerie peach colour. The sea was dead calm here and somehow it felt like the end of the world, a calm, mild, silent late October afternoon.
