A shot of one of the discarded fishing boats at Dungeness in South East England as a storm rolls in. The boats are slowly disintegrating, the wheelhouse on this boat has nearly gone now, it's a desolate place, a photographer's heaven.

Just a shot on my mobile phone and edited in Snapseed, when you've used up all the life in your 'proper' camera's battery it doesn't have to be the end.

Gorgeous Shot!

Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken at Dungeness in south-east England, it has an active fishing community who leave their old boats (shacks and tracks) to gently disintegrate making it a mecca for photographers.
Time
This was taken in the late afternoon, I was taking photos with my friends Anke and her daughter Leonie, I had to wait for Anke to finish taking photos of rusty nails before I could take my shot, they're both in the photo...behind the boat.
Lighting
It was a very dull day and the light was very flat, however the clouds were quite interesting and they add to the air of desolation.
Equipment
This shot was too wide to fit into my Canon, so it's just taken on my phone, an HTC OneX and edited on my phone in Snapseed.
Inspiration
I live quite close to Dungeness, I've taken many, many photos there and through these photos you can see the passage of time, one or two of the shacks have been completely destroyed by the wind, the wheelhouses on several boats, including this one, have been ripped off, so apart from the obvious aesthetic qualities there is a sense that I am recording the boats for posterity (together with countless others). When they're gone, they're gone, you couldn't take this photo now for instance.
Editing
This was edited in my phone, a hint of 'drama' and conversion to black and white in Snapseed.
In my camera bag
Usually I take my Canon 70D with an 18-135 lens, my old Canon 500D has a 55-250 lens locked on it, it won't budge, it seems to be a common(ish) problem, plus a Canon compact and my phone...for emergencies.
Feedback
I like to play with height, angles and perspective, keep moving up and down and sideways until you find the best place, take a lot of photos, they're free after all, and use whatever you have with you, sometimes the shot with your phone might be the best shot...
