Behind The Lens

Location

This Canadair CF-116 Freedom Fighter (Serial No. 116715), is mounted on a pylon near 1 Canadian Division HQ, CFB Kingston. It is one of a number of military aircraft preserved in the city to honour the history of the RCAF. You can view other aircraft preserved in this province here: http://silverhawkauthor.com/aircraft-preserved-in-canada-5a-warplanes-in-ontario_387.html

Time

My preference is for sunrise and morning light.

Lighting

You will find the colours are warmer at dawn and sunset.

Equipment

I have used a variety of cameras over the years, but am finding the quality of the LG cell phone photos is miles ahead of what I have been using since1967.

Inspiration

I am a historian, and like to photograph artefacts that tell the story of our military history. Photos here: http://silverhawkauthor.com/

Editing

I used to experiment with black and white photos many years ago as a student at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Technology has progressed massively, and now I am able to edit photos for my web pages with cropping, enhancing, enlarging etc.

In my camera bag

A small folding tripod is handy.

Feedback

Get yourself a cell phone with a high quality camera capability. Transfer your photos often to your computer to store them, keeping extra space available on your phone. Keep a journal of where you were when you took the photo. Share a handful of good ones - not 60 or 70 at a time.
