Location
This photo was taken on my dining room table. Not necessarily the best resting place for a cat but the right height for me to sit down and take some great, candid shots. I managed to get up close for this one!Time
There's no better way to start a lazy weekend than sitting down with your camera, with a cup of tea and the opportunity to take a few great shots. This was taken just before 9am on a Sunday morning.Lighting
Cats don't always sit still and pose for very long, it's usually a case of taking the opportunity. With Ollie's dark markings it's not always to get a lot of contrast - this day, mother nature helped with some great natural light.Equipment
I used a Nikon D3300, with a 18.0-55.0mm f/3.5-5.6 lensInspiration
I am always looking for ways to get great shots of the family, human and pets alike. The camera is always lying around just in case the opportunity arises. On this day, Ollie was relaxed, chilling out right in front of me. This shot is about 10 after the first one, he was fast getting to the 'OK, I've had enough' stage, hence the moody look.Editing
Just a little tweaking with the saturation, definition and sharpness for this one.In my camera bag
My Nikon D3300 has the 18.0-55.0m lens on always in the bag, accompanied by the 55.0-300.0mm lens. The only other 'staple' is the adaptor to allow quick download onto my phone or iPad for a quick look on a bigger screen.Feedback
Patience and be ready for the opportunity to take that special moment. Ollie (and his sister, Thea) are unwilling participants in a lot of my photos. Sometimes I use stealth, sometimes bribery and sometimes I have a family member jumping up and down like a lunatic behind me to get their attention. This photo took patience and stealth, and then of course, judging Ollie's mood for that moment in time when he really had had enough.
