Location
I took this photo from Newport, New Jersey. This was the place where my parents had their first "date" in USA after getting married and they had meant to take me to the place for a very long time. They called Newport, "pavania" because "pavan" means wind in Hindi and there was a lot of wind. It was right across the World Trade Center in New York. It was right by the railing, in front of the rocks and the water.Time
I took this at 9:51 in the night, where there were barely any people blocking the view. But it doesn't matter much at what time, as long as it is night because the city of New York never sleeps. This was taken on September 23, 2017.Lighting
I wanted to capture the lighting that reflects on to the water, and it reminded me of Dubai's Marina Bay. I wanted to bring out the vibrant colors of New York because many see it from inside, many see the white lights of the skyscrapers, but barely anyone see the green, orange, and blue.Equipment
I used a Nikon d7200 with a 18-55mm Nikkor lens with a Targus tripod. The shot was taken with 25mm, 30 sec, f/11. ISO 100 B.Inspiration
I've had a lot of interest in city long exposures after being inspired by photographers on Instagram and Adobe, and I wanted to try one of my own, seeing how it would come out. I was also inspired by the Marina Bay photograph I talked about, which was taken by my distant cousin, Dhairya Jhaveri. The colors in that are beautiful and I wanted the same experience.Editing
Images usually always require post processing, although this one, not so much. I always make it a goal to keep it as real as possible. For this one, I simply used Google Snapseed. I increased the contrast and saturation, lowered the black point, and put in some radial filters on the sides. I also took a hue brush and painted with a light opacity blue on the top and a light opacity orange in the middle with the buildings (other than the places with blue.) On top of that, I took a saturation brush and painted so to contrast the orange and blue on the buildings and the reflections. In my camera bag
I always carry my two lenses, a Nikkor 18-55 mm and a 55-300 mm lens with my trusty Nikon d7200. I also always carry my tripod and my phone, to take long exposures using the Wi-Fi feature on the camera so that I don't have to press the shutter button and possibly ruin or shake the image. I also carry an extra battery, SD card, and a USB cable (AND FOOOOOD.)Feedback
My advice would be to make sure of the weather around when you take the photo, make sure it isn't too windy, and to take it at a time where there are the least intrusions. I also recommend to (if you can), manually set the aperture and time, and the longer it is the better. Also, make sure that the camera is even and level with the subject, and not slanted.
