Location
This Photo was captured near Sand Hollow, Idaho, on a cold fall day . Sand Hallow is west of Boise, Idaho. Sand Hollow is an area near Middleton, in Southwest Idaho. It is approximately 20 miles east of the Oregon boarder. Sand Hollow is very old farming community near the path of the old Oregon trail.Time
I'm up before dawn every day! I take my equipment with me everywhere go, hoping to capture that one great shot the defines your skill, talent, and essentially who you are as a photographer. This shot was captured at approximately 6:00 am on a very cold fall day.Lighting
As far as lighting goes. I will experiment with lighting on nearly every shot I take, so I might capture the the scene just as I am seeing it. I try to capture the moment as naturally as I can, just as it is.Equipment
I believe on this shot I used my Nikon D 800 using a Quantaray 70-300mm Tele-Macro AF LD. Wide aperture, ISO 250, white balance set to cloudy, 10/2500 shutter speed. Steadily hand held.Inspiration
It was a beautiful silhouette with a beautiful orange-pink sky as a backdrop; I couldn't resist it. Both subject and composition were ideal at that moment. The scene seemed to transport my mind back into a simpler time. Like I said ~ once I seen the subject, I could resist the feeling it gave me.Editing
Like I said earlier, I really try to keep a capture as natural as I can. Generally I will adjust light and Shadow to bring out Clarity and contrast if needed. Sometimes I will use soft focus as well, or soften to add a kind of sensitivity to the scene. In my camera bag
I carry and Nikon D800, a Nikon D610, and a Nikon D5300 and a large array of lenses and filters. Some of my favorites - Nikon 18-35 AF ED, Nikon 28-120 AF ED, and the Quantaray 70-300 AF LD. I always carry neutral density filters, UV filters, and sunlight filters, as well crosshatch, soft focus, and magnification filters.Feedback
When searching for a great shot ~ always keep in mind your lighting and timing, and realize everything changes by the second - so be ready to stop and set up at a moment's notice "when the timing is right", The moment you are seeing, will never again be the same as you are seeing it. Every Capture is completely unique unto itself, and to that moment, and can never again be reproduced. "It's like a fingerprint in time"
