Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the riverfront around the corner from our house.

Time

If I know the Aurora is going to out on a good show, I'm willing to wait outside for this beauty! Even if it happens to be -20°F or lower, which is often.

Lighting

I couldn't drive all the way to my normal spot as the Aurora was popping so much! I didn't want to lose any time photographing her!!!

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon Mark IV and the Rokinon 24 mm wide angle lens, sitting on a tripod.

Inspiration

The beauty of the Aurora Borealis is alwaysa beautiful display of nature and beauty at it's best!

Editing

I use lightroom and do very little processing. I sharpen and I do need to take out noise because ofthe longer shots required to capture the Northern Lights at night.

In my camera bag

I always have my Sigma 35 mm art lens as well as my Rokinon 14 mm when I shoot at night. My teipod is a must and I also carry around a couple of remotes, so I don't accidentally make the camera move by releasing the shutter.

Feedback

Take time and do lots of researxh. With any type of photography, the more you practice, the better you'll get! Don't despair and keep snappin'!
