The sun was going down. We’d been walking a lonely stretch of the river Thames, just us two. Rain made us turn round. The light was strange, unearthly. Drawn across the sky ahead of us, a vivid rainbow. It lay itself down across the surface of the river. The conditions were perfect. I took fleets of images, holding my breath as if a wild creature was in front of me.
