This blob of water remained stuck to spider's threads after the rain had been and gone. It seemed to me to have caught a little world inside itself - sky and trees trapped, distorted. Why should a bright little bubble make me smile? Maybe I thought I'd found something that was mine alone.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in our garden which is a whole world to itself, from venomous spiders to baby wrens.

Time

In the morning.

Lighting

The way it gleamed in the light was what made me notice it.

Equipment

A DSLR and lenses.

Inspiration

The water drop had an eye-catching gleam to it. What interested me was the spider threads that held it. You could think of the scenario with the drop as a prisoner, or a trophy for the spider pleased with the treasure it had caught.

Editing

I added enough light to bring out detail.

In my camera bag

Food and drink! Without sustenance I lose focus. A selection of lenses for what I'm hunting. Actually I don't like carting loads of heavy equipment about.

Feedback

It's just a question of keeping your eyes open, isn't it - becomes automatic for photographers. I remember seeing a silhouette on a tree, similar to the leaves. There was something about the outline of that 'leaf' that set it apart. I watched it. No movement. Was I kidding myself? Not till I zoomed in could I see the profile of a butterfly perfectly concealed.
