Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in Minnesota. In an area called,Boundary Waters Wilderness Canoe area. I was base camping with my son, brother and other fiends on this one of many islands in this area.

Time

This photo was taken about 7 pm. It was sunset on about our 3 rd. day camping.

Lighting

This shot was done all natural, I did not use any extra lighting of any kind.

Equipment

When I go out like this where there is a good chance that something may get wet, from rain or canoe flipping over. I only carry a small point and shoot digital camera, I this this was a old Kodak everything set to auto.

Inspiration

I enjoy sunsets and taking pictures of them, there is never one the same.

Editing

No post processing. Pulled sd card and printed on a small photo printer that was at home.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a Nikon D5000, Nikon 80-200 lens, wireless self timer, 2 generic tripods, 1 that will go up to 6 feet high and 1 that only goes 4 feet high, normal lens care items, Rubber lens guard.

Feedback

My opinion is be patient, have a good tripod or stable base. Shoot several frames a couple seconds apart, you may take 50 to get only 1 you like.. Arrive early pick a spot that will give you the background you want. Stay to last bit of light. Play around with lens settings, keep trying.
