Location
I was visiting my home town in Ontario as I currently live across the country in Alberta. My friend had just completed his ratrod project and we decided to go do a sunset photo shoot. We first went out by Mitchel's bay where the photos were not turning out that great and decided to find something different. We found this great location on a rural country road that had a small creek running by. To add to things, the sun was just at the perfect height and made for great shooting conditions.Time
Magic hour of course. The entire purpose of the shoot was to catch the sunset colours. Being it was just 2-3 hours after it had stopped raining that day, I had high hopes of an amazing sunset and it did not disappoint.Lighting
I had shot a similar vehicle a few months before and had just by chance lined up the light through similar to this one and it turned out great. I decided to play around with the idea and got this great lense flare lined up with the blinker on the fender.Equipment
I used a Canon 80D camera with a Tamron 17-55mm lense and a tripod. I don't think the tripod was necessary but it made it easier to shoot at lower heights.Inspiration
This truck was a multi year project completed by a friend of mine and when I first saw the finished project, I knew I had to get some photos of it. The truck was so unique and really turned a lot of heads when we took it for a drive in town and I knew I had to get some creative shots of the masterpiece.Editing
I did some very basic processing with adjusting the highlights, shadows, etc. I also had to remove a power line that was in the sky that was ruining the shot.In my camera bag
I really enjoy shooting in low light and doing long exposure shots. I always have my tripod and 17-55mm lense. tripod, 10 stop ND filter and remote trigger. There are obviously the cleaning supplies, hoods, etc but those few items listed are must haves. I also enjoy taking photos in the wilderness and for that I bring my 70-300 telephoto lense in case I spot any wildlife.Feedback
changing weather is always a great time to shoot. everyone always rants and raves about magic hour (for good reason) but I find changing weather can give you great conditions during the day. If you can get both like I did in this particular case it turns into an instant gem.
