Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home-state of Michigan. I have been learning photography as I go. My favorite past-time is taking little less traveled trails and dirt roads, exploring and capturing photos of things that catch my eye. I love nature, wildlife and old barns and farmsteads. I came across this Birch tree on autumn day. It practically yelled at me to take the photo. I love Birch trees for their textures and their white bark. The remind me of stories my father told me when we walked in the woods when I was a child. This Birch and others around it had bright red ivy creeping up from the ground, along the trunk of the tree and I just loved the contrast in colors.

Time

I like to ride or walk pretty much any time of the day, especially in the Fall. This photo was taken in the evening when the sun was low and lighting the woods behind the birch trees.

Lighting

I prefer evening light, but I take photos when things stand out in my eyes, so any time of day or evening light is good for me.

Equipment

I use a couple different cameras. I believe this was taken with our Canon.

Inspiration

The lighting behind the tree made for the perfect contrast of greens against the white of the birch tree and added to the bright red of the creeping ivy

Editing

I rarely do anything but crop my photos. I like the natural look.

In my camera bag

I carry my little Samsung digital camera everywhere for it's size and on-the-go capability. I also take our Canon, with it's two lenses, when I know I am going out for photos.

Feedback

I would say to just get out there and enjoy what nature has to show you. If it pops out and yells THIS is a photo op, take it!
