I have lived in Michigan all my life. This photo was taken in a small town area of Michigan.Time
Where we lived when I took this photo was a small town area. We were surrounded by farm lands, fields and woods. On one of the little roads outside of town there is a large potato farm, with fields all spread out and edged with forests and some single trees. This tree was one of my favorite subject. No matter what time of year it is, this tree seemed to stand out and always makes a perfect spot for photos. This image was taken at sunset time in early Winter. The tree had lost most of its leaves, leaving a mostly bare "tree skeleton". As the sun was setting the sky was filled with color. After the sun went past the treeline, this stood out with the fog diffusing the light and softening the pastels colored sunset. I just loved it.Lighting
I think what made this photo so much more interesting than my normal sunset photos was the layers of fog drifting over the field. It softened the coloring and the lighting and made it look more like a painting than a photograph.Equipment
I captured this image with my Samsung digital camera. I took quite a few angles and this one was my favorite.Inspiration
I was outside playing Frisbee with our corgi and noticed the sunset coloring coming through the trees, so I hopped in my car and drove out to my favorite spot for sunset photos. This tree is the center of attention to me at that spot. I also really love twilight time and sunset because my Gram and I used to enjoy them together.Editing
This photo was straight from the camera. I didn't even crop it.In my camera bag
I always carry my little Samsung digital camera, not matter where I go. It's easy to tuck into my pocket and go. When I plan a photographing trip I take my whole camera bag. The main camera I use is my Canon. It has two lenses, so I can swap out if I need a long distance shot. I take the Samsung and the Canon when I plan a trip.Feedback
I just always shoot what catches my eyes. I shoot what I want to share with others. I am more of a nature photographer than anything else and I am always thrilled to see something new. I guess advice would be to get down to your subject level. With this photo I got down on one knee so that the layers of the fog were drifting across the opening in the field and in front of the tree with the sunset colored clouds behind it all.
