Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taking in my home studio. I have a running project called "The Girls at home" where i shoot different people inside my home. Constantly with different lighting. Trying to create something intersting in just 1 room. Im a self taught photographer and this is how I teach myself new tricks and learn new light conditions.

Time

This was shot on a winters day. Around 3-4pm with a low hanging sun. Just bouncing inside a big windows of my living room. She sat on top of the couch and the light and shadow play with the curtain blockin the sun was just perfect.

Lighting

I loved how the shadows played on her face and body. I wanted to keep it misterious. So i closed the curtain to block off some of the sunlight. And used a small reflector to bounce some back. Told her to turn her head towards the light so it just catches it.

Equipment

This was shot a canon 5d mk2. And the Sigma 50mm f1.4. I didnt use any tripods or lights. The rest of the shoot i did. This was just a pre warm up. We where about to begin on the white backdrop. But right before the gorgious light came in. So i had to shoot it too.

Inspiration

The light, the timing. Tino the model being awesome and just the natural flow of the day.

Editing

I didnt edit much on this. Other then skin retouching. some contrast here and there. Other then that its how the light was and fell.

In my camera bag

Im a light traveler. I uusually have my thrusty canon 5d mk2. which def need an upgrade. But its a tank. And the sigma 50mm f1.4. Recently ive been running around with a canon 28mm f1.8 too. I like that view more then the 50mm. More true too what i see. I usually also pack an Elinchrom ELB500 light. With 100 Deep octa modifier to light my subjects. Because of the light weight i can pack it all in my fstop back pack.

Feedback

This all comes down to great timing and having the right elements in the right place. I knew it was winter and the sun was going down. I knew that if i had a model here all day. I would eventually get that light through tthe windows. Also i live here! Ive been looking at this light forever. So having all the elements in place so when it happend we could capture it. and make something awesome together. Stay calm. Look at the shadows. Look at the light. And just have fun with it.
