I took this photo at Cathedrals Beach (Playa de las Catedrales), in Galicia, North of SpainTime
It was summer, so I had to woke up around 5:30am (it was terrific). Fortunately I was only 10 minutes by car, so I was ready before sunrise. Water was very cold (around 15ºC), and I had no water shoes, so I had to run to arrive to the cave as soon as possible. Once I was there, it was a matter of checking again the best compositions (I had already been there to see what I could do), and wait for the light. Being there so early allowed me to take the best place, as later there were some other photographers coming.Lighting
I wanted to stress the contrast between the light to the arches and the darkness of the cave (it's not a real cave, but it's dark enough)Equipment
I was shooting with a Nikon D810 and a Tamron 15-30mm on a RRS tripod and ballheadInspiration
This is an iconic place in Spain. I wanted to capture it with the low tide, but with a dramatic sky. On the afternoon it's very difficult to take a picture here because of the crowds, but at sunrise it's really easy if you wake up early, and all the conditions (low tide at same time than sunrise) are met.Editing
Yes, because there were two different light scenarios: inside the cave and outside. I've tried to recover some information from the cave keeping it dark, and also enhance the light coming and its effect on the rocks and the sky.In my camera bag
Now I'm working with a Sony A7RII and the following lenses: Sony 16-35 F4, Laowa 15 F2 (Im crazy about wide angles), Sony 55 F1.8 and Sony 70-200 F4. I also carry a bunch of ND filters: 10, 6 and 3 stops, plus a Circular Polarizer that it's attached to the filter holder.Feedback
Plan it, plan it and plan it. In this case I had to take a look at a tides table, to check the best low tides at morning, and also I had to match them with sunrise time. This planning was done 3 months in advance, and I went there a month ago to see which were the best compositions I could take. Any work done in advance will make you have more time to shoot and enjoy once you're there
