Location
Red Cliff, Northern NSW, Australia.Time
After spending only a couple of hours down the coast, we had just arrived at the place we were going to call "home" for the next two nights. Shortly after parking the RAV, the sun started setting, and it created this golden haze about the tree line. My partner's priorities were to get the tent up before dark hit and the mozzies started eating us alive. She was none too impressed to find out that my goals were far from the same, and that i'd already gotten out of the car, unpacked my camera and started taking photos. Which included this one. I got given death stares for about an hour afterward, but it was worth it of course.Lighting
I wanted to show the pure contrast of the sky, and how the haze was hitting the tree line. So, instead of risking pulling the eye's attention away from what I considered to be the prettiest aspect in the frame, i decided to darken out the detail within the trees themselves and focus solely on capturing the colours within the sky and the tops of the trees and bushes.Equipment
I used a Canon Eos 700D, I can't actually remember which lense I used. That's the only equipment used for this image.Inspiration
I've always loved sunsets and the idea that not one of them is the same as the other, whether it be the cloud patterns or the colours themselves. I've always loved nature and planet earth in general. SO shooting nature, landscape or anything related, is one of my favourite things to shoot.Editing
I used Adobe Lightroom to tone down some of the highlughts, darken shadows and add some detail to the overall image. In my camera bag
I always have my trusty Vanguard Adaptor 41 bag which includes my Canon EOS 700D with Canon 18-55mm, Canon 55-250mm & Canon 20-35mm lenses. I also always have my Benro ball head tripod to allow for most angles needed whilst shooting, a remote shutter for those odd days I feel like being in front of the camera for a change or any other circumstance where I might need it, 3 spare batteries for those days when shoots run over time and I don't want to be caught short. A neutral density filter for long exposures on the slightly over exposed days, and finally, a micro fibre cloth for any dust that gets in the way whilst taking my shots.Feedback
My only advice to anyone wanting to pick up a camera is to just do it. I'm not a professional, I'm nowhere near it so I tend to avoid giving advice in areas where I'm still learning myself. But, with a little bit of practice and even just the motivation to pick up a camera, I think we're all capable of taking what ever type of photos we want. My only advice as mentioned above, just do it and see what happens and I can guarantee you'll have some fun in the process!
