This picture was taken mid-day with several flashes.Lighting
I used a flash mounted on the camera plus a flash on both sides of the box.Equipment
Camera: Canon T5i Lens: Canon 18-135mm IS Flashes: Canon Speedlights 580EX II, 430EX II and 420EX Tripod: MeFoto Roadtrip Cable releaseInspiration
Every year I use one or more of my animals as our Christmas card. For this card Katie was willing to be my subject. I'm not sure where the idea came from, but I used a copy paper box. I cut a hole in the center of the bottom of the box, then wrapped the bottom and sides leaving the top open. I placed the box on its side. I had the camera on the tripod, focused and ready to shoot and the flashes in place. When I put Katie in the box I poked a hole in the paper with my finger and began playing with her. As she played, I took a series of about 10 shots and this was my favorite.Editing
I straightened the photo and lightened it a little. In my camera bag
Depends on what I am shooting. My bag is different for indoor vs outdoor shots. I always have my camera body, 1 to 3 lens, flash, cable release, lens cloth, extra camera and flash batteries. Additionally I might carry a camera 'rain jacket'.Feedback
When taking pictures of animals (or kids) allow plenty of time, be patient and play/interact with them.
