Location
This was taken on my home verandah in Jimboomba Queensland, Aus.Time
I am a habitual early riser and noticed the cactus flowering early one morning. The very heavy dew set it off for me. I went back inside to grab my camera and tripod which are always ready to go, and snapped the photo. The sun was still hiding behind the trees, so the light was very subdued - i thought perfect. This was taken at 7.20 am on 20 May 2017.Lighting
I like to utilise natural light as much as possible and this subject provided a great opportunity to use the early morning light filtering through the trees, providing that refreshing, new life type of feeling.Equipment
Nikon D700. Lens was a Nikon 120 - 400 mm f/4.5-5.6. Tripod mounted. Remotely triggered.Inspiration
I often walk around my property in the early mornings looking for something that might offer photographic potential. I had been watching the cactus develop for a few mornings and noticed the very heavy dew that had formed over the plant on the morning of the shoot. Couldn’t resist it.Editing
Very little to be honest. Some minor Tone and Presence adjustments and cropping a wayward stem out and that was it...In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D700 and while it is a little old now I believe it is still an excellant body. I nearly always have my Nikon 10-35mm wide-angle lens attached to it, closely followed by my equally favourite Nikon 200mm 1:4 prime Micro lens.Feedback
Watch the world around you as things develop. Early morning or evening light is almost certainly the best but should not limit your view of things throughout the day anyway - be prepared and plan, think ahead, but also be ready to capture moments as they occur. Think of how would that look in a photograph of everything you are looking at.
