Location
This image was taken hand held at Malham Tarn in the Yorkshire Dales on a very wet, windy and chilly January day, I positioned myself to take the shot but then noticed that the low clouds were slowly clearing or lifting slightly, therefore I waited for a further 10 to 15 minutes so the rising hillside in the background could be seen and included.Time
It was around 1400hrsLighting
The light was very up and down due to the non-stop rain, and high winds that kept the low clouds sweeping in, some of which were very dark and ominous.Equipment
My equipment on the day was a Canon 550D with a 55/250mm Canon EFs Lens, hand held and no flash was used. The camera was covered with a Black plastic bin bag to keep the rain at bay.Inspiration
I was on a Photography day in the Dales with my youngest Daughter, who is also interested in Photography. As we drove towards the Tarn at Malham through the low cloud/mist the tree appeared, there was and still is, no other tree or feature near by, it stands quit alone. Pulling off the road I said to my Daughter I have got to take this, parking further up the road out of the way I walked back to find a good vantage point, once this was found I marked it and returned to get my camera, then it was down to waiting for the right opportunity with the clouds and light.Editing
A small amount of processing was done in Photoshop ie Straightening, and sharpening. In my camera bag
This was taken when I was just starting in Digital Photography, but now my bag contents are a Canon 1DX MkII body, and the following Canon L series Lenses, 50mm 1.4f, 16/35mm 2.8f, 24/70mm 2.8f, 100mm Macro 2.8f, 100/400mm 4-5.6f, 1x1.4 & 1x 2x Extenders. Various Lee filters, Canon EX-RT 600 flash & Canon trigger, plus a Giottos carbon tripod.Feedback
Never be put off by the weather, even if you do have to wait for the light.
