Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the sunflower field at Holland Farms in the panhandle of Florida. Beautiful place. Sunflowers everywhere!

Time

The sun was high and it was a very hot and humid day. I would say around noon time-frame because I remember the sweat dripping into my eyes as I tried to focus on this photo. The sunlight captured the picture perfectly.

Lighting

I wanted the sunlight to help the sunflowers “shine”. It captured the yellow color perfectly, and really helped the flowers pop.

Equipment

I used my canon t5i, no flash, and handheld. I used my kit lens for the photo.

Inspiration

Turning around in the field and seeing the barn, I knew I wanted a “rustic” looking picture and to have all the sunflowers be part of it. What I was looking at and imagined the picture to be, turned out exactly right. I wanted a post-card look to it, and that is exactly what it became.

Editing

I added some extra sun flare to the side, to make the sun seem like it wasn’t directly above in the sky. Besides that, I only brightened the colors a little bit. Not much else was added into post editing.

In my camera bag

Normally, I always make sure to have my 100mm macro lens, my 50mm lens, and my kits lens. They are my absolute favorites and seem to capture any look I am wanting. I also carry my 75-200mm lens but don’t tend to use it as much. I always have a tripod, thou I tend to shoot handheld majority of the time. I look to move around constantly. Extra batteries, and extra SD cards ALWAYS!! You never know when you’re going to run into the perfect picture set up.

Feedback

Imagine what you want the picture to be in the outcome and use that as you set up your shot. Also, always work with the natural light and sun glare. Remember you can crop easier than you can expand. If you have the basic of what you are wanting, it is easy to add the little things to make it “picture perfect”. Enjoy nature. There is beauty everywhere you look. Even something as simple as a barn.
