In stark contrast, the 'Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood' is situated opposite a bustling street of bland looking buildings in St. Petersburg, Russia. The two sites are on opposite sides of the Griboedov Canal. Built between 1993 and 1907, the massive church stands on ground where Emperor Alexander II was fatally wounded in March 1881. While most of the city's architecture is Baroque and Neoclassic, the church is symbolic of Russian Medieval architecture. It was quite striking to see two opposing styles in such close proximity. A popular attraction, throngs of tourists surrounded the church. I felt lucky to capture a photo that primarily depicted the two sites without having to include a multitude of tourists -- after many tries, of course!
