Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was shot along the southern coast line of New Brunswick after hours of off-roading to the remote camp spot high above the water.Time
I remember reading how to take night shots and watching videos, since I was a brand new photographer, the whole week while we drove and in off time in hopes that we would have a clear night. Sure enough one of the evenings was the one to practice during. We were sitting by a fire when we looked up amazed by what we saw. After hours of trying I finally got this photo at 22:41 on August 17.Lighting
After seeing a picture of the stars behind a camp spot it’s all I wanted to try recreate on my next trip. Once I decided to start trying to get the shot I ran around like a headless chicken for hours. Changing settings, changing locations, re-reading the internet how to, and different stabilizing methods since I didn’t have a tripod. My camp buddy had gone to the tent and left the light on which happened to really help me on this image. I tried using different flashlights, blocking or building up the fire, and different angles until I finally got the shot.Equipment
I used a Nikon d3400 with the 18-55mm lens with no other equipment.Inspiration
After seeing a night shot of an Instagram page I follow with a 4runner I instantly wanted to get one of my own.Editing
I used the Lightroom app on my phone and played with the settings until I finally got the best shot. I had raised the exposure and whites setting for light. Increase in vibrance and saturation for color. And then clarity and sharpening were raised as well. The Lightroom app is an amazing app for on the move editing. In my camera bag
Right now I have my Nikon d3400 with the 18-55mm lens and the 70-300mm lens. I also have a remote controller that I haven’t used yet and my tripod. I would like to get a fisheye or wide angle lens next and then go from there.Feedback
I was and still am a very new to photography but my advice is don’t give up. Between the tutorials online and simply reaching out to any photographer that has inspired you, there is a ton of information out there. Also, get outside and see the world and capture everything you can some shots won’t be much but others, like this one, turn out above what you expected you could create. So much can come from simply exploring and having the want to learn and create! So enjoy and have fun doing whatever it is you love and capture it in the process!
