Behind The Lens

Location

Quebec province is indeed the real place for nature lovers but specially Gaspesie for its grand landscapes lined by the sea most of the time.

Time

Suddenly at the end of the day the sky got covered with clouds of thunderstorm with thunder rumbles, it is soon sunset time ...

Lighting

Here the sunset takes place behind the lighthouse to avoid backlight as much as possible, using a spot measure focusing on the lighthouse

Equipment

D5100 on a tripod that allow me to focus directly on my screen under DOF priority, and lower the shutter speed for a HDR merging in a bracket of 3 pictures

Inspiration

Here we are in Cap-des-Rosiers, well known to be one of better observation posts for whales, and this lighthouse is the tallest in Canada. Beside this the sunsets in there are a delight and I promised myself to capture some good seascapes during our stay.

Editing

Well, HDR only and slightly light the shadows

In my camera bag

Nikon D5100, Nikon D3300, Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G, Nikkor 55-200mm 1:4-5.6G, B+W circular polarizer for both, and a Rokinon 14mm 1:2.8, one 3-sections leg tripod (20 to 60 inches) light and easy, another tiny one 8 inches, two YN460 and a Gary Fong

Feedback

You have to avoid making your measure of light on the sky, obviously, unless wanting to obtain shadow plays and using a tripod will allow you to work on DOF
