As a kid I couldn’t wait to get home from school and climb up to our roof and watch the clouds. My favorite was after a rainstorm just when a grey sky began fading to white and the sun peeked through the nimbus unto the rolling hills planted with endless fields of corn, beans, coffee, radishes, and everything in between. And the contrast of the soft, green leaves being caressed by an evening sun against volcanic, dark, humid soil so rich with minerals convinced me that simplicity is a necessity. People began slowly coming out of their houses at a slower pace than normal, in a better mood, and the streets smelled of roasted coffee; seemingly everyone was cheery and would greet one another. Then I would lift my eyes to the sky again and feel empty of burdens… and my eyes overflowed with joy and I thanked God. And I felt I could fly. I felt this again once I took this picture and I found myself happily obsessed with the colors, which remind me of everything I love, the silhouettes, and the freeing clouds.
