Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the end of a photoshoot with the client in a Moscow studio. We made a two-hour session and had 2 rooms for it. This photo was made in the second studio-room simply as a motion portrait. I wanted to catch the brightness of the performance and the energy of the dancer.

Time

The photoshoot took place in the afternoon as we wanted to catch the day light in this studio.

Lighting

My client is an energetic person who loves her profession of a dancer and I wanted the pictures to reflect it. So that the viewer feels the atmosphere and gets "infected"with it. Feels the vibe as they say. I think this photo does show that, so I am happy with it.

Equipment

I used Canon EOS 750D with the kit lense 18-55 mm. Interestingly I made this photo standing on a ladder and from above, with some models it gives a good angle for the face and gives accent to the eyes. I didn't use any flash and it was in day light.

Inspiration

At that time I purchased my first, say, professional camera and being a starting photographer I was looking for models for test shoots. I knew the model of the photo before and we discussed the ideas for the photoshoot and as Carolina was a dancer we decided to pick interesting locations for a photoshoots involving unusual studio environment and dancing costumes. This photo is with white background but the outfit was the third or the fourth in that photoshoot.

Editing

So far, I have used Photoshop and Lightroom for processing photos. I pay a lot of attention to the skin, texture and its colour, I like that models have healthy look and try to sort of put the accent on their strengths in outlook. I like to catch the look of models as eyes give a lot of information on the mood or thought of a person.

In my camera bag

I have my Canon EOS 750D body and the lense 18-55 mm as it is still good for making photos of landscapes and people, and I love the portrait Lense 50 mm (Canon), I love the depth of the light and it shoots with the volume effect and it looks very live.

Feedback

As a self-taught photographer I can say that it is necessary to try, try different locations, different lights, and as for example with this photo I used a ladder to try different angles. It is important to make your own tries because the process of creativity and your own sense will lead you to some good results. Try and not be afraid of "mistakes".
