Location
My husband & I were camping at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, in St.Martin Parish, Louisiana. We were sitting around the campfire cooking breakfast, when we heard scratching sounds coming from a tree behind us. We looked up and saw this little raccoon face peeking out of the hole. Next thing we know, Mom raccoon is leading her 4 babies down the tree to a wooded area about 100 feet from our campsite.Time
We camped at this site for 15 days. Every morning we got to see Mom & Dad training their babies.Lighting
I was so excited that the little raccoon family made an appearance every morning, right at sunrise— great lighting! ????Equipment
I used a Canon Powershot (point & shoot) camera on a tripod.Inspiration
We spend a lot of time at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park. Every time I walk the trails, I look for holes in trees, hoping to see owls, squirrels, raccoons, etc. I’ve been lucky enough to find a Barred Owl nest hole, this raccoon hole, and a couple of squirrel nest holes. I keep a record of the nest locations.Editing
I did some cropping. In my camera bag
I have my Canon Powershot, several batteries, extra memory cards, lens cloth, defogging spray & cloths, eyeglasses, & Pepper spray gun—I am often alone in very isolated areas.Feedback
Learn the habits of wildlife—marks on trees made by deer—learn the different bird calls—look for nests— Most important— have patience. It’s amazing what you can witness by just being still and observing nature!!
