Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at castle Eltz in Germany. Castle Eltz is located in Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz).

Time

This picture was taken close to sunset this summer a week ago (begin of August). The sunsets close behind this beautiful castle.

Lighting

So this is a nature lighted image. That means the sun did light the situation. I did plan this shot towards the sunset and the trees gave this picture a nice frame.

Equipment

I did use a Canon 5D MK IV with a Canon 16-35mm, L, IS, 4.0 lens. The camera was mounted on a tripod. For darken the sky I used a GND-Filter 1.2 and I did 3 different exposures and combined them as a HDR-Picture.

Inspiration

I saw a lot of pictures from Castle Eltz and I always wanted this picture with the setting sun in the background. So I checked the weather forecast a few days and on this days the conditions seems to be good. So I decided to go there and was lucky to do so!

Editing

Yes of course I combined the 3 exposures to an HDR-picture and did some changes in: color, highlights, shadows and temperature. I used also an Ortonfilter for the background.

In my camera bag

My Canon 5D MK IV, wide angel lens (Canon 16-35mm, L , IS, 4.0), Canon 24-70mm, L, II, 2.8; Canon 70-200mm, L, IS II, 2.8 and sometimes the Canon 11-24, L, 4.0. My tripod, my Kase filters and sometime an 2. body (Canon 5D S or 1D X).

Feedback

Plan our spot! Season, time, direction, distance and so on. Take a look at pictures of this area and use tools like googlemaps, suncalc etc!
