Crater Lake was once a 12,000 foot volcano that erupted 7,700 years ago. After the eruption, the volcano collapsed leaving an island behind. It is the deepest lake in the USA, at 1,943 feet. There are no rivers or streams flowing into the lake. The lake receives all of its water from snow or rain. The average snowfall per year is 44 feet.
