Recently, I passed my Part 107 drone certification and picked up a Mavic Pro.
The other week, Laguna Beach enforced a new drone ban, which means if you're caught flying one, you could be fined anywhere from $100 - $500 dollars.
With this in mind, I decided to head down to Laguna the day BEFORE the ban went into effect because I really wanted to photograph this empty concrete pool found at Victoria Beach next to the famous Pirate Tower there.
After taking some neat shots of the empty pool, I decided I really wanted to spice it up by adding an interesting, human-based focal point to the image. There was a cute couple taking photos of the pool and I asked them if they’d be willing to try a little experiment with me.
They graciously accepted and helped me create this lovely little image of them enshrined in a foot-drawn heart.
Funnily enough, after snapping a few shots, getting their information and sincerely thanking them, I learned that it was their one year wedding anniversary and they were celebrating it in Laguna. So I promised them this photo to commemorate their time together.
For editing I opted to stylize the picture a bit using some split toning and creative use of gradient filters.
